Why Aquacultured?

What is an Aquacultured coral?

Aquacultured corals are grown under artificial lights in natural sea water and with the addition of common suppliments like calcium, kalkwasser, iodine and strontium. These specifications are mostly identical to your aquarium at home.

But are Aquacultured corals better?

Aquacultured corals have spent their life in aquarium conditions just like yours. They have grown in water, flow and lighting conditions very similar to home aquariums. THus they are less susseptable to disease and are generally more resiliant, conditioned to life in aquariums.

So what about Coral Mania corals?

We beleive that Aquacultured corals are corals that are 100% captive grown in a facility. No part of the frag or coral is directly from a wild colony. Some of our corals are 4th and 5th generation corals.

We are a fully licenced aquaculture facility by the Queensland governments Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries.

Look for our Aquacultured stamp of approval for our quality aquacultured corals.

But other suppliers have aquacultured corals, dont they?

Beware of other suppliers claiming falsely that their frags are "aquacultured". Aquacultured corals should come from colonies that have 100% grown and propogated in a facility. Some suppliers are ofter just "chop shops" that are providing you with wild caught corals that have been broken up and sold as aquacultured.

Buying Cultured Coral Preserves the Beauty of Natural Reefs

When buying aquacultured, the beauty of cultured coral is that buying it preserves the inherent beauty of wild reefs while still providing reef hobbyists with stunning, hardy and affordable specimens for their reef or invertebrate tanks. Having said this, many species of coral can be harvested from the wild in an environmentally sustainable manner, and, when purchased from a reputable source, wild-collected coral is also a good choice for many aquarists.
